Maggie and Chris, a bookstore and woodsy engagement session in Pittsburgh

When Maggie and Chris said they wanted to incorporate a few of their favorite places into their engagement session I was so excited. They loved the idea of going to a Half Price Books that they used to frequent along with a gorgeous trail they liked to walk. Pair that with wanting a little bit of a Wes Anderson vibe and I was ecstatic!

It was so much fun to hear about how these two met in high school, chat about books and movies, along with having fun digging through the shelves and checking out the records. After having some fun and ending our time at Half Price Books on a silly note, we headed to Dead Man's Hollow Trail to get some pretty photos in nature. I loved the funky abandoned building in the park that was overtaken by nature!

Hartwood Acres Ribbon Cutting

I was so excited and honored when I was asked to photograph the new wedding space at Hartwood Acres. They had a gorgeous opening ceremony with pieces from Vintage Alley Rentals and stunning floral arrangements from Thommy Conroy at 4121 Main. The space perfectly integrates into the natural setting, creating a beautiful space for receptions right next to the ceremony space at the stately mansion. Hardwood Acres also had lovely gardens, perfect for a cocktail hour, along with an abundance of beautiful photo locations. The light coming in at the reception space paired with all of the other locations on the grounds for the ceremony, cocktail hour and portraits makes this venue a photographer's dream. I can't wait to photograph a real wedding there!

Tiana and Jake, a colorful summer farm wedding at Rustic Acres Farm

Meeting at just 12 and 14 years old through the Suzuki School of Music, Tiana and Jake's love story is a sweet one. After Jake gave Tiana a poem to say he liked her, the pair embarked on a journey together that lead them to Pittsburgh. After getting engaged during a romantic anniversary trip to Lake Erie, the couple planned a laid back, fun, colorful wedding at Rustic Acres Farm up in Volant, PA. Enlisting the amazing talents of everyone at the JPC Event Group and Garnish Event Design, this spectacular wedding showcased bold pops of color, a gorgeous ceremony space, and a wedding that let the personality of these two sweethearts really shine! These two really brought little hints of their love story into their day, the biggest element being Jake giving Tiana a framed copy of the poem her wrote her and Tiana surprising Jake with a diary full of things she wrote to him during the course of their engagement. There wasn't a dry eye in the house after they opened their gifts! After a few surprise rain showers, Tiana and Jake got married under a beautiful greenery draped willow tree on the Rustic Acres property. The pair kept the guest list small and intimate, and had mostly family and close friends int he bridal party. Tiana's bridesmaids wore sweet pink dresses in all different styles while Jake had his grooms people in a bold navy. All of the ladies, including Tiana, wore colorful flower crowns. The whole wedding was flower-filled, from Tiana's gorgeous, huge bouquet, to the couple having a tree planting ceremony complete with a magnolia tree for their future home, to having the guests throw flowers as the newlyweds ran down the aisle! After the ceremony, the couple trekked the grounds of the farm for portraits before heading to the barn for dinner. Carrying the colorful theme through to the reception, vendors worked some serious magic in the reception space. Hanging flowers above the sweetheart table matched perfectly with the green settee provided for the newlyweds to sit on. Tables were adorned with large, vibrant blooms and overflowing greenery, accented with gold flatware and golden dog table number holders as a little nod to the pair's sweet pups. Keeping with their laid back, fun feel to the wedding, the couple had stations with bbq, mexican, chinese and pasta to fuel guests for a night of dancing. After dinner, Jake and Tiana cut one of several beautiful cakes from Mixed with Love before opening up the ice cream sundae bar to guests and dancing the night away!

Kat a Zack, a bohemian, laid back wedding at Armstrong Farms

After meeting online, having an adorable little guy named Kaz, and moving from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, Kat and Zack decided to tie the knot. The pair, along with an amazing team of vendors coordinated by the always fabulous Devoted to you Events, had a family filled wedding full of fun and personal touches. The farm was a perfect venue, allowing for a fun kids area, lawn games, and a picture perfect location for the ceremony and portraits. The pair incorporated personal, sentimental elements like having Zack's ring made by a friend who owns Studebaker Metals, a smudging ceremony after Kat was escorted down the aisle, and having a bridal party made up of family members. By trusting their vendors and the amazing team at Devoted to You, the pair managed to perfectly pull off the laid back vibe they were going for. Kat and Zack started the day together, with Kaz running around as they all got ready. Marisa Julin worked her magic with make up and hair for all of the ladies, including pinning in all of the gorgeous flower crowns provided by Community Flower Shop. The bursts of orange, yellow and green were perfect with Kat's Daughters of Simone dress from Glitter and Grit and the floral bridesmaids dresses from Show Me Your Mumu. Kat paired a fun pair of Jeffery Campbell booties with her dress while Zack rocked a fun blue suit with a bow tie. After getting ready, the group wandered the farm for portrait time, taking advantage of the gorgeous property all around the Armstrong Farms Westminster Preserve. After wrapping up photos, everyone headed down to the ceremony on the lake. Community Flower Shop accented the naturally gorgeous space with fun floral elements that framed the dock. After being walked down the aisle by both of her parents, Kat met Zack at the dock for the smudging ceremony. Once they were officially married, the newlyweds danced and high-fived down the aisle! For cocktail hour, guest played games on the lawn surrounding the barn. On the wrap around porch, place cards featuring place cards by Fresh Cut Prints that matched the invitation suite hung and large dreamcatchers were strung from the beams. Once entering the barn, a large floral chandelier made by Community Flower Shop was the star of the show. Each table was decorated with jars of loose flowers, along with colorful glassware provided by Vintage Alley Rentals. Cakes provided by the Butterwood Bake Consortium along with mini pies from Piebirds rested on stunning vintage cake plates from Vintage Alley, giving guests a variety of options for what kind of cake they wanted! Once they did their first dance, Kat and Zack snuck out for some photos with a sweet vintage car before dancing the night away.
