When I first met Elysia and Shaun for coffee before they booked me I knew I wanted to be their wedding photographer. When they booked and we started planning an engagement session at the pick your own flower fields at Simmons Farm, I couldn't believe how lucky I was to be their photographer. It was such a gorgeous day and I loved watching these two walk through the fields picking flowers and talking about their flowers for the wedding. It was so sweet and a perfect idea for a session. The pair brought a picnic, enjoyed some wine and had fun with the day despite the heat. I'm so excited for these two to get married in the fall and I can't wait to see which flowers they pick for the wedding day!
When Maggie and Chris said they wanted to incorporate a few of their favorite places into their engagement session I was so excited. They loved the idea of going to a Half Price Books that they used to frequent along with a gorgeous trail they liked to walk. Pair that with wanting a little bit of a Wes Anderson vibe and I was ecstatic!
It was so much fun to hear about how these two met in high school, chat about books and movies, along with having fun digging through the shelves and checking out the records. After having some fun and ending our time at Half Price Books on a silly note, we headed to Dead Man's Hollow Trail to get some pretty photos in nature. I loved the funky abandoned building in the park that was overtaken by nature!
Since we had our booking meeting over Skype, my first chance to meet Tiana and Jake came at their engagement session. The pair met me at Frick Park and brought their sweet dogs for their session. It was so much fun to get to know them as we walked through the park on this early spring day. As a crazy dog lady, I spent way too much time playing with their dogs instead of shooting!
As part of their initial email, I had asked Tiana to tell me a little bit about her and Jake and their relationship. I love their love story and how they've been together and grown together over the years. It totally shows in their interactions together and it was so sweet to work with them.
Here is their love story in Tiana's words:
"Jake and I have been together for five years. We've been friends since I was 12 and he was 15, and started dating when I was 16. There were definitely a few bumps and awkward situations leading to us dating (particularly because one of my best friends was his sister, which is how we started hanging out), but we are so excited to be where we are now five years later and absolutely ecstatic to get married! "
It was so much fun meeting up with Ali, Phil and their sweet pup Sammie, over the winter for Ali and Phil's engagement session in North Park. We lucked out with an unseasonably warm winter day along with gorgeous light, it couldn't have been more perfect!
I love getting to know a little about my clients, so I asked Ali to tell me a little about their love story. Her parents own one of my favorite bridal boutiques, Bridal Beginning, so it was fun chatting weddings with her since she grew up surrounded by the wedding industry! Here's what Ali said about life with Phil, and why it was so important to have photos with Sammie! "Phil and I met 5 years ago in graduate school at the university of Dayton. We are both physical therapists here in Pittsburgh. Phil grew up on a small cattle farm near Columbus Ohio and I grew up around weddings my entire life from my parents business. We are active and love the outdoors and our pride and joy is our golden retriever, Sammie."
I can't wait for their upcoming wedding at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in the fall.
I love working with other photographers and working with Chelsea was no exception. She is an insanely talented senior photographer and her sweet fiancee Aaron works for the Pittsburgh Pirates! After some rainy day reschedules, we finally got our act together and met up for their session. The pair started out at the Bookshelf Cafe for some drinks with their adorable pups. These two are naturals in front of the camera. After getting our daily dose of caffeine, we headed over to Schenley Park to get some shots that spoke to yogi Chelsea's love for bohemian vibes, a perfect fit for their woodsy nuptials next year. It was a total blast hanging out with them, and snuggling their pups Buster and Oscar. I can never say no to dogs at engagement sessions!
Shooting this session was SO much fun! Shang and Anthony told me they wanted a lot of locations and outfit changes so I just rolled with it. Starting at Frick Park with formal outfits, this pair wandered the woods with me. After that, we headed to Carnegie Mellon University where their love story began. We took photos at several of the buildings and out on the lawn, ending on the walkway to a building here they were classmates. We wrapped up with outfit change number three. The pair switched into gorgeous traditional outfits, opting for fun industrial and colorful locations to subtly show the place they fell in love, along with adding a bold pop of color. They pulled out a cute paper umbrella for these shots and it was the perfect prop!
Allyson and Matt totally killed this gorgeous, snowy, winter engagement session up at Settler's Cabin Park. Despite the freezing temps, these two stayed warm and adorable.
The pair snuck this session in quickly a few weeks before their nuptials, taking advantage of the snow to pay homage to the subtle Game of Thrones theme for their wedding. In addition to some cute snuggling in the snow, they brought a replica of Jon Snow's sword, Longclaw, which they'll be using to cut their cake at the wedding!
Winter seems to scare people away from booking sessions, so when Ashley and Luke told me they wanted to do their session over the winter at a beautiful Christmas tree farm, I jumped at the chance! Thee two totally froze their butts off on this frigid January day, but it was so worth it. They put together a beautiful little set with everything for s'mores, a blanket and tree decorations. It was so adorable! I loved watching them laugh over some s'more mishaps, decorate a tree together, and just snuggle up in the cold.
When Alyssa and Jonathan first pitched me the idea of heading to a small local airport for their engagement session I literally did a little happy dance. But before we went to the Allegheny County Airport for the second half of the session, we started out at Hartwood Acres. This sweet pair is having a Gatsby inspired wedding so they wanted to incorporate some of that vintage feel into their session and Hartwood was the perfect location.
We walked the gorgeous grounds of the Hartwood Acres property, taking advantage of the gorgeous landscaping and architecture. After wrapping up at Hartwood, the pair made a quick outfit change and we headed to the airport. We managed to perfectly time the start of the session at the Allegheny County Airport, catching the start of a stunning sunset. The airport fit the vibe of their wedding perfectly, incorporating some art deco architecture. While we were shooting, Alyssa told me about how Jonathan, a pilot, took her up on dates in the exact plane we were photographing. It was so sweet to be able to capture them with something that had so much meaning to them!
Annie and Clark's engagement session at Soergel's Orchard was full of fun and some sweet sentimental details. Clark's family owns a pumpkin patch where it turns out Annie used to go pumpkin picking all the time, even though these two didn't meet until they were in college! I loved their sweet fairytale romance, hearing about how many times their lives intersected and overlapped, ending in an adorable Disney proposal.
It was so much fun to incorporate the apple orchard into their session. We walked the orchard, picked a few apples and chatted about their wedding vision (they're getting hitched at one of my favorite venues, Armstrong Farms!). We also managed to be at the orchard just as they opened up their pick your own pumpkin fields, the perfect spot for this pair! We wrapped up the session with a pit stop at the cute shop at the orchard, then ended the night with cute photos of Annie and Clark at their house down the street, snapping photos on the porch of their first home together.
When Tory first contacted me about her wedding, I did a double take. Then I looked at my boyfriend and gave him a funny look. It seems Tory and I had something in common, we both fell in love with guys named Nathan Smith! After a laugh about her fiance and my then-boyfriend (now fiance!) sharing the same name, it seemed to be a no brainer for me to be their wedding photographer!
Tory and Nate met me at Trax Farms, one of my favorite spots to go on my rare days off in the fall! We had originally planned to go to their orchard, but with the craziness of their fall festival we missed the last hayride. It actually worked out beautifully, we wandered through the market laughing and having a great time. After the pair checked out the market, they did a quick outfit change and we headed up to South Park for golden hour photos. I found a gorgeous field and Tory pulled out her hat (I'm obsessed!) for some shots that had a french countryside vibe. It was the perfect way to wrap up our shoot!
When a photographer hires you as their wedding photographer, it's such an honor. So when Ashley and Stefan hired me I was over the moon. This outdoorsy pair wanted a session at one of their favorite places and I was more than happy to jump on board. Ashley, Stefan and I hopped in the car and drove down to Ohiopyle, ready to go on an adventure together. We hiked up and down around waterfalls, jumped in the water, and ran through the fields. It was so much fun to capture this couple's adventurous side, enjoying the outdoors together in such a beautiful place
