Maggie and Chris, a bookstore and woodsy engagement session in Pittsburgh

When Maggie and Chris said they wanted to incorporate a few of their favorite places into their engagement session I was so excited. They loved the idea of going to a Half Price Books that they used to frequent along with a gorgeous trail they liked to walk. Pair that with wanting a little bit of a Wes Anderson vibe and I was ecstatic!

It was so much fun to hear about how these two met in high school, chat about books and movies, along with having fun digging through the shelves and checking out the records. After having some fun and ending our time at Half Price Books on a silly note, we headed to Dead Man's Hollow Trail to get some pretty photos in nature. I loved the funky abandoned building in the park that was overtaken by nature!

Hartwood Acres Ribbon Cutting

I was so excited and honored when I was asked to photograph the new wedding space at Hartwood Acres. They had a gorgeous opening ceremony with pieces from Vintage Alley Rentals and stunning floral arrangements from Thommy Conroy at 4121 Main. The space perfectly integrates into the natural setting, creating a beautiful space for receptions right next to the ceremony space at the stately mansion. Hardwood Acres also had lovely gardens, perfect for a cocktail hour, along with an abundance of beautiful photo locations. The light coming in at the reception space paired with all of the other locations on the grounds for the ceremony, cocktail hour and portraits makes this venue a photographer's dream. I can't wait to photograph a real wedding there!

Jackie and Tyler, a bohemian, industrial inspired destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico

From a chance first meeting at Texas Roadhouse, to many shared birthdays, to a sweet Easter egg hunt proposal, Jackie and Tyler had a beautiful romance leading up to their stunning beach nuptials in Mexico. The paid tied the knot at the Dreams Riviera Cancun resort on a windy, warm, beautiful day, surrounded by family and friends. Jackie, along with her ladies, got ready at the resort, doing their own hair and makeup (the bride is an amazing hair stylist, so she and her ladies knocked it out of the park with their hair and make up!). The bridal party wore muted, natural colors and Jackie gifted the ladies with beautiful mixed metallic jewelry to go with each bridesmaid's dress. After a gift exchange with Tyler, the brie put on her gorgeous dress and headed to the deck for the ceremony. The decor for both the ceremony and reception was very bohemian with a subtle industrial vibe. Jackie pulled her inspiration for the decor from a combination of the gorgeous scenery and inspirational images that she found online. Copper chairs, geometric glass terrariums filled with lush flowers, industrial lighting, and a gorgeous raw wood table decorated the existing structure for the ceremony. Before the wedding, the pair said their most anticipated moment of the day was when the bride walked down the aisle and the pair saw each other. The look (and tears!) of joy that were shed were so sweet. Jackie and Tyler kept the ceremony simple and heartfelt, writing their own vows and exiting to the 44 guests throwing rose petals. After the ceremony, the bridal party headed to the beach for photos. In addition to portraits on the beach, Jackie and Tyler opted to take some photos in the lush palms all over the property. Once portraits wrapped up, the couple headed to their gorgeous beachfront reception. The mixed metallics, raw wood and lush floral elements were continued into the reception decor. Once everyone was seated for dinner, the pair had their first dance to the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Hard to Concentrate," followed by everyone partying the night away.

Jackie and Tyler, a day after session in Cancun, Mexico

When you're lucky and get an amazing couple like this who wants to take you to a beautiful beach for their wedding, you tack on a few bonus items to say thank you. For Jackie and Tyler, I offered a day after session, to grab some beautiful photos around the Dreams Riviera Cancun resort before they headed off to their "honeymoon" at another resort. They managed to get up the day after their AMAZING wedding and meet me to go jump in the water. It was so much fun being a part of their wedding and to be able to offer this fun little session to mark their first day as a married couple was so sweet.
